Silverback® Solar Engineered Racking Systems
This is no tinker toy racking system. It’s not one of those roof-compromising ballasted systems either. It’s a heavy duty, serious PV racking system developed by people who understand structures and waterproofing. That’s why we named it Silverback: big, strong, sturdy.
Whether your roof is wide open without obstructions, or cluttered with all kinds of equipment, Silverback Solar® Racking is a great choice. Our high-strength designs allow you to put solar on commercial roofs most people would walk away from. High parapet walls, HVAC equipment and other roof clutter won’t kill your project if you use Silverback. Elevated frames that span over equipment and get above shadows make it possible. Our specially designed roof attachment system makes it watertight.

New Environmental Center
R-Series and Custom DesignWe love working with architects. With our construction background, we understand their world, and they appreciate how we can design-build anything they want. When the team from RUST | ORLING Architects contacted us regarding their New Environmental Center project in Alexandria, VA, our design team got to work and figured out how to meet their needs. The upper flat roof was covered with our basic R-Series racking, including a curved array to match the building curve and maximize the available roof space. But the coolest part of the project was the vertical PV array cladding the curved face of the building. RoofScreen designed a custom racking system with curved tubing and watertight attachments at the wall and roof. The final result is an impressive display of building-integrated solar.

Parthenon Towers
S-Series, 4 modules high in portraitWhen we first heard from the solar integrator for this project, it was a familiar story. They looked at all the racking systems they were familiar with and could not find one that could meet the challenging conditions of their project. In Nashville, TN, this building stands 200 feet tall and is in a high wind exposure location. To make it even more challenging, the customer requested a 4-module-high array in portrait mode at 20° tilt in order to fit between the parapet wall and HVAC units. This resulted in an array standing 10 feet tall like a large sail. The Silverback engineering team easily met the design challenges with our S-Series truss frames. Silverback Solar was not only the best choice for this project, it was the only choice.

Greenside Hangar Quantico, VA
S-Series, 3 modules high in portraitGreenside Hangar, home to The President’s Marine One helicopter, went green with the help of Silverback Solar®. The sophisticated nature of the project (and the ultimate client!) demanded an engineered solution, and our S-Series racking system delivered just that. The design included elevated arrays capable of withstanding high wind loads and a 25 psf snow load. The roof connections were spaced at 11.5 feet on center to align with structural I-beams for maximum support.

Hillcrest Center for the Arts
R-Series, 3 Modules High in LandscapeIn Thousand Oaks California, the Silverback Solar R-Series racking system was the right choice for the conversion of a rooftop parking deck to 307kw solar array. Having been a parking deck, the structure was solid concrete slab, making it easy to anchor our Round Post Supports to the deck and arrange the arrays diagonally on the building to capitalize on full southern exposure.

Laney College
R-Series, 2 and 3 modules high in portraitCompleted in 2014, this 600kw project on Laney College in Oakland, CA used our R-Series low profile solar racking system. Originally built in the 1960's, the non-structural gypsum roof construction presented some unique challenges. The Silverback engineers were able to customize the round post attachments and arrange the layouts to attach at the strongest points in the roof, satisfying the owners, installers and DSA (Division of the State Architect).
